Is the NEW 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid a better SUV than a CR-V Hybrid?

Joylandi 30-May, 2021
The FIRST ever Santa Fe Hybrid is here and Hyundai has combine value and fuel savings. On the outside of the Limited trim you will find a unique grill, front fascia, wheels and rear bumper.Pn the inside there is a 12.3in digital dash, upgraded infotainment system and a ton of room. Under the hood is a 1.6L turbocharged inline-4 mated to and electric motor to produce 225HP \u0026 mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Is the NEW 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid a better SUV than a CR-V or RAV4?

  • No heads up display?

  • My next car will be a hybrid one and this video helps me a lot to chose which one. Thank you.

  • What is the battery warranty, and how much for a new battery out of warranty ?

    • @Raiti's Rides also, my rear dash cam may not like the rear wiper up high

    • Great question! 3 years

  • Seems like the Acura RDX is a similar tweener sized SUV, no hybrid though.

  • 21:05 How fitting for the vehicle in front of you ;)

  • Thank you!! I’ve been waiting for this comparison

  • Tucson = Rav 4 class, Santa Fe is larger = Edge & Murano size. Palisade is more Explorer competitor.....plenty of room for all 3 in the lineup.

    • @Raiti's Rides Thanks for the reviews, Santa Fe (like the Edge & Murano) is an odd duck.....a large-ish two row

    • Thanks for sharing your great input and perspective on this one.

  • No, but the 2022 model is 👍

  • I got to say. That thing is one sharp SUV.

  • Awesome review !! Thanks a lot !!!!

  • Just bought the Santa Fe Sel. I love it It is a big upgrade from my Hyndai sport that I traded in. There is so much room.

  • yep, cheap looking wheels with the flat black above and honey comb grill....otherwise great

  • Have you reviewed the Kia Sorento Hybrid?

  • Just bought mine yesterday and am so in love! It’s luxury at the right price!

  • Hyundai is on a hot streak.

  • Does it have head-up display?

  • Seen one of this in traffic today, and it was kinda....meh. I’m an absolute Hyundai/Kia fan, but this new SantaFe just doesn’t seem to fit in with the family. Would definitely prefer a Palisade over this.

  • is spare tire included?

  • So is this similar to a Toyota Highlander as far as internal dimensions go?

  • You didn't show the biggest storage in front of the storage lid you lifted..................

  • Those wheels are sick!

  • Definitely the best looking SUV in this class. I am not a fan of the multiple finishes like paint, chrome, brushed aluminum, flat black plastic, and gloss black plastic all on the same vehicle. It looks like a bunch of extra “stuff” just stuck on the vehicle.

  • ❤️

  • iPhone hybrid with a new camera 📱💻⌨️🖥⌨️💻📲📱⌚️🖥

  • Santa Fe hybrid "¿

  • 30 MPG???? RAV4 gets 40!!

  • Agree excellent videography. My question is Honda has yet to come out with a passport hybrid. I’m thinking that might happen in 2022. That’s why I’m holding off replacing my 2006 pilot AWD… 180,000 fantastic miles. That car is a champion. But I do love and I’m quite tempted about this Santa Fe. Over the years, The pilot got longer and longer. Also I don’t need that extra third row nor that extra length. That is why I am looking at the passport. What I do like is to sit up high. That is super important to me. I have yet to drive a Santa Fe but would be very curious to have you compare Santa Fe to Honda passport. Those are closer in length but they just don’t have the same interior design. I just ❤️ what Hyundai is showing for the technology. Of course, I have yet to actually drive one. I like to sit up high. At age 75, it is hard to get in and out of low cars. And this would be my last brand new new car before they take my keys away! 😂 I keep my cars a long time Comments?

  • That was my first choice. Hyundai putting some awesome tech, comfort and safety.

  • Nice

  • your review makes everything better, I really enjoy watching your channel.

  • The CR-V Hybrid does not have a CVT - in fact it has no transmission at all. One less maintenance or reliability issue. Also it has 40mpg in the city. However The Santa Fe is a much nicer and larger looking SUV in my view. Plus and Minuses to the comparisons.

  • They are doing big they r not playing

  • Hi Zonkman, love this SUV but if everything was good new how will cars have?

  • U can compare it to the Murano and edge

  • Thanks a lot guys! Great review again! After long time consideration (including what german car automakers did with noxes ;) ) I realized Toyota, Honda and Hyundai are the only logical choices. Even for electric. Tesla are starting to act in a dickinzien way much like Apple does, and I, for one, did not purchased a vehicle so you can spy on me constantly and even if I pay it in full, still not own the vehicle.

  • Excellent video

  • The Sorento hybrid doesn't have mechanical AWD either. In fact AWD is only available on the plug in version of the hybrid...

  • Hi! Will you be reviewing the SEL Premium Trim as well? Thanks for the video!

  • Sorry I am not going to buy this Hyundai pice of junk

  • Joe please come to India

  • Looks really good and compelling. The only question is the reliability compared with Honda and Toyota. I know Hyundai and Kia have been improving a lot with regards to quality, reliability, and fit and finish, but are they at the same level with Honda and Toyota? I might consider it for a lease now, but long term? Not sure yet. But they are getting really close…

    • @Voice Author yes, I agree that initial quality and fit and finish is very good. However, it is still a question of the long term reliability. I have a number of friends who have recently bought or leased a Hyundai or Kia. They switched from Honda mostly and have been happy initially. However, after a couple years, they are starting to have more issues than they did with their Hondas and Toyotas. As I said, they have really come a long ways and have upped their game in quality. At this point, I would consider them for a leased vehicle, but I would wait a couple more years before considering for a long term purchase. I need to see more history of reliability, even with their warranty promises.

    • My concerns exactly. Honda vs Santa Fe.

    • Old thoughts. You should Google 2019 JD Powers Brand Ranking (least number of problems) 1. Genesis 2. Kia 3. Hyundai.

    • They are close to Honda and Mazda, but they are still a couple thousand miles behind Toyota. No pun intended.

    • I am so glad that you like this one.

  • I thought the interior and dash styling really fell behind other Hyundai models. Chocolate color interior, there's a reason why you hardly ever see that in other cars. Get a new design dept Santa Fe! A chocolate bar is much more tasty.

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.

  • What is the difference between a 12-inch Uconnect and the 12.3-inch Hyundai screen, is no comparison. Uconnect is over 72-sq.inch viewing space versus the 36.9-sq.inch viewing space on the Santa Fe. So what is the point here? More nonsense than reality.

  • It’s a Hyundai….proven to have shitty reliability. No matter how ‘pretty’ they make their vehicles, they will never match the quality and reliability of Honda or Toyota.

    • Old thoughts. You should Google 2019 JD Powers Brand Ranking (least number of problems) 1. Genesis 2. Kia 3. Hyundai.

  • 0-60 low 8s not that quick. Cant believe you tested HEV and didnt say much about the fuel economy. Bizzaro stuff.

    • @Robert Duklus Raitis ride isn’t usually about those qualities, so if you want that go to redline reviews or somewhere else. Just saying

    • @Andrewgyny ok so what was the test average FE? How does the hybrid system in this compares to rav 4 and escape .HEVs. No info. Fail.

    • @Robert Duklus I'm not at all sure he ever argued it wasn't important.

    • @Raiti's Rides its not crazy its amateurish. You cant argue the importance of fuel economy when reviewing HEV!!!!!!!

    • That is so crazy!

  • I'm really happy to see your review of the Santa Fe Hybrid Limited. I have one ordered - quartz white with the two-tone "chocolate" Hersheys/Baby Ruth interior - due in to the dealership around June 16th. It looks like an amazing vehicle. Buying it in Virginia, but will drive it mostly in the Phoenix area beginning later this year. It was hard to find. I shopped the web sites of every Hyundai dealer in Virginia to find it. When it arrives, I'll toast ya with a YooHoo!

  • Hideous vehicle. Brilliant review nevertheless..

  • Doesn't compete with the Rav4 and CR-V. Competes with the Toyata Venza, Ford Edge, Nissan Murano and Honda Passport.

  • Is Hyundai becoming a Luxury company?

    • No, that's what their genesis brand is there for.

  • Everyone throws in their 2 bits about the rear window washer, Zonk this, Zonk that. But what REALLY grinds MY gears are the owners that neglect to FILL UP THE WASHER FLUID RESERVOIR for the rear wiper system. They drive around with a dirty window with blade marks because they fail to fill it up:Call the Repo Man~!!!

  • Hi Joe and Lori. Sharon and I love your Show. Congratulations on your 500k. We are watching from Bahrain in the Middle East. I think we have seen all of your reviews in the last 3 months not to mention a lot of the older ones! Sharon is from PCB, FL and I’m from South Africa. We are planning to move to the US in the next 6 weeks. We want to get a 3 row SUV. We have test driven the Palisade here in Bahrain and love it but should we hold out for the Pathfinder?

    • Hi James & Sharon! Thanks for your awesome support! You might want to wait to experience the Pathfinder for yourself.

  • What is the width of the Sante Fe? 75 inches are in the spec - do the mirrors fold in? And if so what is the width then?

    • I’m pretty sure that in the calligraphy trim the mirrors do fold in.

    • That is a great question.

  • Is heads up display on all trimes? On Hybrid? Also, can you fit a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood in the back with seats down?

  • Damm I want a Santa Fe. But no HUD

  • Apple to Apples you should compare the Tucson to the CRV and RAV4 hybrids. And the Santa Fe to the Pilot and the Highlander. Is not rocket science. Having said that I don't recall you let us know what kind of spare tire it has.

  • Great review. I'm just not 100% sold on that front end. There's so much grille... it kind of looks like a catfish robot from the future.

  • uzfire.info/camera/video/d6ObrWOOk6eZjp0

  • Wondering why a hybrid gets better mpg’s in the city than on the highway.

    • That's pretty much how all hybrids work. Thanks to a battery, electric motor, and a few other nifty things, hybrids do great for city driving.

  • In my opinion the Santa Fe does not compete with the CR-V or RAV-4; for that segment Hyundai has the redesign Tucson which moves up in size and power. They even have a hybrid Tucson with that exactly drivetrain. The Santa Fe competes in the 5 passenger SUV segment with the Toyota Venza (which is hybrid only), the Honda Passport, Ford Edge, Chevy Blazer, VW Atlas Cross Sport, Nissan Murano, Subaru Outback and Kia Sorento. I really do like it but the 2.5 turbo sound more appealing.

  • Santa Fe's competition is with Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Honda Passport, etc while Tucson competes with CRVs and RAV4s.

  • For the class, the exterior is 3/5, interior is 4/5, performance 3.5/5..value is 4/5. Overall, this should be an option. Nice video JOE and Lori

  • The rims are a zonk. They look like ninja stars.

  • Great review Joe👍🏼. Digging that Santa Fe good bang for your buck

  • I love it my boy Joe keep up the work and I love the video lot real true 💯funny 💯😄😆good 💯👍

  • Hyundai.... Shame on you for NOT providing a Power Steering Wheel adjustment !! With all the "stuff" included, that should have been included. The Memory settings would then include the steering wheel , the seats, and the mirrors. Does the Remote start engage the heated steering wheel, the rear windshield defroster, the heated seats on those cold mornings?

  • Joe, great review...But this Santa Fe Hybrid SUV should not be compared to the Honda CRV Hybrid. The Tucson Hybrid is a better comparison to the CRV and the Rav 4.

  • Nice vehicle, but ugly wheels. :)

  • Hyundai santafe is great car but I dont like ugly front grill

  • Just wondering if you got a chance to check out the harmon kardon system and if it compares to the Harmon Kardon system in the Volvo XC60 which I love.

  • It has some great features for sure, and I really like it doesn't have a CVT transmission... but I don't like the way it looks inside or out. It's just too much for me. I'm personally not impressed with all the different color "chocolate", especially in a black car. 😕 I'm curious how good the AWD works?

  • Yes hyundai is better than toyota and honda.

  • Great review! But you can get a Toyota Rav-4 hybrid XLE Premium for just 33k...

  • Seats 💺 are spectacular

  • I really wished they made a 4wd/awd version with more power. With that weight and the fact that it's an suv I personally want like 400hp.

    • I dunno if anything above 300 bhp is really noticeable or otherwise and on a hybrid, that would make no sense. On a calligraphy trim or otherwsie, agreed

  • 6 speed automatic, not 6 speed manual. That’s a mistake in the description.

  • Rims look 👀 😍 👌 ✨

  • Front facia looks great 👍 👌 😀

  • Hey Joe 👋 👋

  • Please do the Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy with the 20in Wheels and rims

    • @Leslie Fox Yes dealers are getting the Santa Fe Calligraphy with 20 in wheels now.

    • Apparently those 20 inch wheels are a figment of the imagination. It doesn’t seem like anybody actually has them on a car. Perpetually unavailable. True?

  • You guys in the US get the top trim on the Hybrid. I got Canadian Santa Fe Hybrid top trim but without the 10.5" but a 8" touchscreen and the gauge is the same. I love the Santa Fe Hybrid. It has good power when engine and the motor kick in together. The quietness cabinet and the drive feel like a German car. The interior quality is amazing for the money. I tell you I have been a Toyota customer for so many but owning this Hyundai Santa Fe will change your mind. Your review was exactly how I felt when I first test drove. Keep up your good work.

  • the description says manual transmission. and yes, some ppl like me do actually read it lol

  • Your reviewing my car!! I just purchased this one in the Limited trim. Quartz White with black interior. LOVE IT🤍🤍 I’ve been getting compliments from everyone! Just got it ceramic coated as well and the shine is crazy. Hi Lori!!!!

    • @Leslie Fox Yes, I’m curious as to what the pricing was for the ceramic coating

    • Tell us about what is the ceramic coating? And how much extra did it cost? Is it applied at the factory?

    • Hi Alycia! That is awesome! I am really interested in test driving the SEL Premium version.

  • Not sure if I would compare this to a Rav4 or a CR-V. Those are compact offerings while this is a two row midsized crossover that is considerably larger. This might directly compete more with the Venza or even the standard gas Passport.

    • Thank you that is exactly what I want to know. How this would stack up against the passport.

  • Raiti needs to do a review of the 1997-2003 Jaguar XJ, my favorite car of all time!

  • Isn’t this too big for a Rav or CRV? This is Highlander and Pilot sized...

    • @Matt Mekhaeil Ok, I can see that. I just know it’s too big to be classed with a CRV or Rav

    • This suv is under those 3 row suvs. Think like Toyota Venza. That class of cars

  • Who buys an AWD Santa Fe in Florida? Seriously....

  • Don’t know if I’m the only one that hate cars without the actual gear levers 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @Leslie Fox nope we don’t have to adapt at all we can skip just like we can skip on electric motors and if we start skipping on them they will go back to the authentic way of making vehicles, as a matter of fact I already skip on Mercedes with that old fashioned gear stalk on the steering...

    • I would prefer actual gear levers but they seem to be going the way of the dodo bird. So I guess we will have to adapt.

  • Happy Memorial Day tomorrow sir. Hope you get some good down time. You triggered me with the name and hybrid badges. I don’t like any of those. An example of a badge flub is my cousins Seat Tarraco. It looks like it’s saying TAAAACO (which is funny on a Spanish car, but nowhere else). Our Hyundai looks like it says “SANTAFE.” They need to be redone asap. Really excited to see the conventional automatic. Car looks great for what you are spending. Cant beat the warranty. Thanks for the great review.

  • Kia & Hyundai are low quality vehicles, people only buy them because they are cheap! Use your brain buy a Toyota, Lexus of Mazda 👍

    • @joeschmo Mofo Get rid of all that junk and buy a Kia or Hyundai to enjoy a great dependable driving experience.

    • @joeschmo Mofo Agree 20 years ago, now as good as any other brand that's why they sell in big #s

    • @Matt Mekhaeil German vehicles.....better never own one without an extended warranty. Parts and labor are in$ane ! Thy are not bullet proof.

    • Troll. You should Google 2019 JD Powers Brand Ranking (least number of problems) 1. Genesis 2. Kia 3. Hyundai

    • @joeschmo Mofo Facts are facts, sure. Hyundai has been upping their game in the past 3 years. I'd say they improved ten fold over themselves which is still maybe half of where Toyota is now, but that's a huge improvement all the same.

  • Love the chocolate seats

  • Well done Joe

  • Is the mid sized Santa Fe competing with compact Rav4 and CRV now?

    • @Andrewgyny H-Lander is larger like a Palisade size.

    • @Blues price point, sure. I'm just talking about the segment it competes in.

    • @Andrewgyny At its starting price point, it seems it's priced much more like a RAV than Highlander.

    • No, it’s technically competing with the Highlander and Pilot.

  • people who planning to buy a vehicle should go to Joe for in depth analysis 👍🤙

  • Hey Joe you're giving me a sweet tooth 😋 and I'm actually loving this hybrid great review

  • Where the led fog lights

  • I'm struggling to decide if I'm going to get this or the Tucson Hybrid. The Tucson gets better mileage, but I'm a bigger guy and it looks like the Santa Fe is roomier inside. I like knobs and the Tucson with the 10.25" screen doesn't have any. The Tucson should be faster because it's lighter as well. The price difference is only a few thousand dollars. I wish they could do the Calligraphy trim for the hybrid Santa Fe as well. I like the HUD and those sexy 20" wheels!

  • That is a pretty sweet looking vehicle and the Sunglasses Hyundai gives you are much needed when cleaning that grill, you don't want to go Chromeblind. LOL

  • Wow! You actually reviewed this, and Hyundai hasn’t even updated their website to let us all know that it’s out there in the wild. Great job!

  • Since my old car was dieing, I wasn't able to wait for a Limited hybrid, but after 2 months, I absolutely LOVE my Santa Fe Limited with the 2.5 turbo. The Santa Fe is worlds nicer than the Rav 4 in terms of interior, smoothness, and quietness on the road. One of the main selling points for me, over the competition, was the front and back seat space. I am 6'2" and have eaten too many Twinkies over the years, and the amount of space front and back is amazing. Plus, the back seats are actually really comfortable. I do wish the non hybrid had that slick sliding back seat, though. Another thing that would be awesome would be for the passenger seat to flip forward. I sometimes haul 8' pieces of lumber and that would be super duper to have the front seat flip down. Otherwise, the car is a complete joy to drive and I hope it lasts for a long time. BTW, for anyone who buys one, I HIGHLY recommend getting a small heated car blow dryer for drying the front grill. Just trust me on this...lol!

  • Wouldn't this be more of a Venza competitor rather than a Rav4 hybrid competitor?

    • @VegetarianBacon Palisade is closer, but this is supposedly the direct competitor.

    • @Andrewgyny isn't the Palisade closer in size to a Highlander? And this is just 2 rows.

    • No, it’s closer to the size of a highlander.
