Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra Platinum the truck to buy or wait for the 2022?

Joylandi 18-May, 2021
The Tundra has been that go to for truck buyers who want a reliable full size truck. Under the hood is a 5.7L V8 381HP \u0026 mated to a 6-speed automatic. On the outside the 2021 Platinum brings a unique grill, bumpers, wheels, and running boards. On the inside you will find the familiar Tundra cabin with some recently updated tech. Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra Platinum the truck to buy or wait for the 2022?

  • Beautiful truck! No thanks to the 2022 Hybrid or Twin Turbo V6.

  • Great review but you didn't test horn loudness

  • yes the Tundra is old but Toyota makes a good truck period

  • EVERY Tundra review, the MPG is poor.... Proceeds to pound the gas pedal from a stop and love the exhaust note.

  • 12:00 hahahahahaha

  • There are so many trim levels I am so confused in what to get. Which one has the smoothies ride?

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one!

  • I had a 2015 platinum tundra. Was a fantastic truck. But this is basically identical inside and out. Leaves a lot to be desired 6 years later

  • I have the toyota tundra platinum 2021 I love it

    • Thanks for sharing that great input from your ownership!

  • Loooove my tundra!

  • Great review! I'm about to pull the trigger on a '21 tundra nightshade edition. Not because I'm skeptical of the coming redesign, I'm actually very much looking forward to it. That said, I want my next truck to be my last truck and the current tundra is all but guaranteed to last for as long as I want to drive it. It's missing some tech and refinement, but it's rock solid where it matters most and it's less expensive than most of the competition at about $50k before any sort of discount, which may not even be possible get a discount in the current market. So should I drop $50k on a '21 limited nightshade or wait for the new one?

  • Tundra has the biggest cab!!! Very confortable

  • Hello my friends! I had a 2016 Limited just like that one loved it I had to get rid of it lost my job I couldn’t afford the payment had 89k miles never had any problems at all!

  • 👍👌👊

  • If history is prologue then Toyota should put the OBDII plug right the dash next to the radio because you are going to need it. Toyota hid and ignored an expensive fuel pump issue for 10 years now with over 3.2 million recalls that do not cover all vehicles.

  • That is a nice truck for a good price ..exterior look 4 out of 5, interior look 3.5 out of 5, reliability 5 out of 5, gas guzzler 2.5 out of 5.. nice video JOE and Lori

    • Thanks for sharing that great input Michel!

  • That’s a PLATINUM!? Toyota gotta step it up big time!

  • The crewmax does not tow over 10k pounds. It's rated for 9400. Make sure to know your facts sir.

  • I wish the bed was longer

  • Can't wait to see your review of the new 2022! We hold onto our vehicles so reliability is a huge factor for us. Loved the MJ reference and that comment alone made me like you even more. Great review as always.

  • The last "affordable" higher trimmed truck.

  • Hello hello hello lol

  • The American brands are garbage I love 💘 Toyota. I currently have a 2001 Nissan Frontier and I love it as well my dream truck is the tundra. I want the long bed model.

  • Toyota is the #1 brand in the world hands down

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.

  • Too bad Toyota decided to take the TRANSMISSION COOLER out of the truck, but still advertise the truck as having a cooler....

    • @Raiti's Rides had to put a trans cooler in my friends 2020 TRD Pro in February. Toyota stopped putting them on but still advertised it on the dealership sticker.

    • @Raiti's Rides yes, started in 2018

    • They did?

  • The price is out of control thats crazy

  • The 8 will last forever turbos reduce the engines life span...

  • I like the 80s bodystil way better!!!!..

  • Can you get a crew max with an eight foot bed???

  • I just want to say I love your reviews! Can’t wait to see the new tundra review!

    • That really means so much Robert! Thanks for being part of the Raiti's Rides family!

  • Seats 💺 look awesome

  • Rims look great 👍 👌 😀

  • Love 💘 the front facia

  • Hey Joe 👋 👋

    • Hey Seth! I really appreciate your dedication!

  • I love my PLATINUM TUNDRA. When you lift it and put some big rims and meaty tired. Best looking truck out there! And the ability to completely roll down the whole back window! It's like a convertible with the sunroof and all the windows down!! NO ONE ELSE DOES THAT!!

  • Other pickup trucks: haha look at that fool trying to look smug.. Tundra: hey guys see yall at 500k miles.

  • You got a strong follow from me when you mentioned Micheal Jordan being the GOAT and not Lebum! 👍🏾

  • When you consider the retooling costs, toyota has not had to do it significantly since this truck came out. This means that it has been nothing but a cash cow for them. DO IT ONCE, DO IT WELL AND ENJOY THE PROFITS!!!

  • Hey Joe how come it doesn’t have the reflector in the back???

  • Never buy a new generation within the first 2-3 years. Let the inevitable kinks get worked out. Toyota is no exception.

  • Definitely wait for the 2022. I’m excited to trade in my 2020.

    • @pattii55 Same here, as soon as I heard the next gen would have a Toyota Ecoboost I ran out and grabbed a 21

    • If you don’t mind a Turbo V6 in the ‘22. We haul a camper and heavy band equipment, so V6 Turbo needs to prove itself first in reliability and longevity, before we buy one. We decided to trade in our 2012 the minute we heard the V6 is in the ‘22. Had planned to keep our 12 another 3 years. The 2021s are really hard to find right now, all sold out at every dealership within 100 miles (even used ones of ANY year were all gone). We finally picked up a ‘21 that was ordered and client backed out of the sale. We had an ‘07 and ‘12, and soon ‘21.

    • Should sell it privately now while prices are high.

    • It should be interesting!

  • I’d actually consider getting this if the truck was redesigned and better mpg

  • Outdated out preformed First truck to the fuel island.

  • That fuel economy is really the only downside to a truck like this one in my opinion

  • i like better the 1794 trim level 😎👍

  • This whole Tundra is a zonk

  • welcome back too Texas. Did you hit the pecan lodge?

  • Wait for the 2022 for sure.

  • The fuel economy on the 1/2 ton Tundra is worse than a 3/4 ton gas HD truck. All it needs is a ZF 8 speed transmission to be updated!

  • From what Ive seen so far my first choice could a Ram Rebel then the Ram TRX and last the Toyota Tundra............sorry Ford F-150!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Your reviews are always chill haha I just watch them just to watch at this point lol

  • Wait for the new one or buy this one drive it then test drive the new V6 2T see if you like it. from what I've found it will have plenty of power and more with the hybrid version.

  • It's a great truck except for the 10MPG in the city! In CA where it's almost $4 a gallon, it's something to seriously consider. I stopped going for coffee since it made the cost $10 :)

  • thankyou for having the camera facing the road during the road test.. your detailed videos just get better each time. i am currently saving for a Hilux so please be gentle with her when you review one 🤣

  • yes i pay more attention for reliability..

  • no skid plate? shocking!

  • This is lot of truck for the money. When you look at competition they offer nothing more than some useless gimmicks that tend to fail and be fixed by expensive dealership visits in a long run. A simple ipad mount fix all the so called latest tech features on the go. $53K for this tank and on top the redesign is near so better incentives right now makes this bad boy the best choice out there.

  • Truck design very outdated. Best feature, the arm rest. Now that's an arm rest! Why can't other cars do that?!

  • Great reviews! If I can make a suggestion Joe, how about having 3 or 4 different review formats you can switch to among reviews, keeps things unpredictable.

  • Bout time someone reviewed something other than a Pro!

  • Joe u forgot to hit that tow/haul mode button

  • "While Americans can’t seem to get enough of the mid-size pickups from Japanese automakers, they absolutely shun their full-size trucks. According to data from WardsIntelligence, the highest market share Toyota has seen with Tundra was 9.1% and that was in 2007. It currently hovers in the 5% range. It’s even worse for Nissan. The best the Titan was able to muster was 3.5% of the market in 2005. Today it’s at 1.5%. With the Detroit Three commanding 94% of full-size pickup sales this year, it might almost make more sense for Toyota and Nissan to share a large truck platform." Autoline

  • How could you??? Not showing how the rear window opens up 😭

  • Not from USA still binge watching your videos.🤙

  • Love the overall look...I’d be happy with any truck but I’ve come to love Toyota reliability... I want vehicles I can count on knowing it’s not gonna break down.. you can have all the bells and whistles in the world but they don’t mean crap if your truck’s sitting in the shop..

  • To be honest the interior very boring & too many cheap plastics(( does not compare with the Ram 1500 interior & exterior sorry fans of Toyota but it’s true))

  • I love he tundra ! Awesome video

  • Gas Station´s best friend, the MPG is for 2021 horrible, please don´t buy these cars with this engines, think a little bit for the future and your children.

    • Would buy if you promise to pay for a new truck if the V6 can’t handle hauling high weights for 9 years as our V8 ‘12 Tundra has.

  • GRT8 review RR Man I miss my 2007 Tundra Crewmax in pyrite mica that I had for ten years it was very good to me. Someone crashed into my parked Tundra in 2017

  • Best truck on the market!

    • Sorry, Consumer Reports puts the Ram on top today.

  • If they had just (body color) painted and clear coated the "silver" trim parts, it would've totally classed the interior up. And that MPG.....shameful in 2021 ! Keep up the great work team Lori.

  • One of the best V log 👌....Love from India 🇮🇳.

  • Hopefully Toyota makes a dually version with a Diesel engine 👍

  • MJ all the way

  • people will argue that toyota isn't as reliable as before. and that's what a person in a toyota service said and experienced

  • Wow 🤩 😳 😯 since 1999 The Toyota Tundra Has Been Out Unbelievable

  • I have a 2014 Toyota Tundra crewmax platinum edition... its unfortunate to not see any or very very little changes to basically everything in the “”new” 2021 Toyota Tundra. I’m waiting for the innovation and significant changes to a newly designed Toyota Tundra crewmax ... more so with the interior before I make a purchase on a vehicle.

  • I’ve got a 2016 Tundra 1794 Edition and it’s like it’s brand new. V8 or nothing 💪🏼🔥

  • That truck is a dinosaur. But you do have to worry about it breaking. 🦕🦖

  • Awesome review. Since Memorial Day is coming up I think it would be awesome if you did a review on Rams Built to Serve edition trucks. Especially the Tank Green. It's an awesome truck. Nice features any military veteran would love. 👌🏽

  • That hood scoop is not functional; cosmetic only. But if you're into phony scoops, go for the Sport or TRD Pro, there's another phony scoop in the center of the hood that obstructs line of sight over the hood. Very dated truck, and they have a secret oil leak that costs $$$ to fix. What oil leak you ask? Cam Towers.

  • this thing is so outdated 😂

  • Yawn

  • The 2021 looks boring... American muscle trucks💪

  • Bruh the 2022 Tundra is either going to look REALLY cool or flop

  • Customer of ours just traded in their 2000 Tundra long box with almost 400k on it. It fetched $2600 wholesale and customer picked up a 2021 TRD sport premium! Toyota makes amazing trucks! Great review!!

  • That 6 spd auto transmission is down a few gears, and should be 8 to 10 gears. Would help the MPG's as well.

  • pass on the price and gas milage

  • Don't buy a Toyota get a real truck like a dodge

  • Wow $53,000.00! These pickup prices out of control JOE

    • Who's Joe

    • Take a look at Ford, GM, and RAM and their prices are a lot higher on this trim level.

  • I think they gave you a 2011 tundra, you sure this is a 2021 lol

    • Older than dirt!

  • 3:47 Lemme get this little leaf outta he'e.....get outta he'e. 😂😂😂Joe Raiti's for prez. 20....56.

  • Don’t wait! Get it now! Turbos and overly complicated electronic systems will kill reliability!

  • If I could only have one truck for the rest of my life it would be a tundra

  • That vehicle is rugged and reliable...it also looks and rides nicely...yes, it is outdated, but may also mean less tech issues to worry about down the line...nice video JOE and shout out to Lori.

  • Witnessed a Toyota twin turbos 5.7 liter V-8 Tundra pull 10s in the 1/4 mile.

  • Toyota 5.7 liter V-8 and the Aisin 6 speed transmission, a PERFECT combination.

  • With the little Easter eggs you dtopped about sometimes a redesign goes backward, I'm thinking this may be the Tundra to get... I'm loving the analog gauges, though. That slide down rear glass is an awesome touch! Thanks for the great angles on this one, Lori!

  • If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • Screw MPGs!

  • Yee Haw!
