Is the ALL NEW 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid the truck of the future?

Joylandi 8-Iyn, 2021
The FIRST standard hybrid truck is here and Ford is hoping that the Maverick will be a game changer. On the outside the Maverick is a tad smaller than the Ranger making it a compact truck. On the outside you will see a unique grill front, fascia and headlights. On the inside there is room for 5, an 8in infotainment system and optional B\u0026O sound system. Under the hood standard comes a 2.5L inline-4 combined with an electric motor, or there is an optional 2.0L EcoBoost inline-4. Is the ALL NEW 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid the truck of the future?

  • I have a Mav reserved….Hybrid in Cactus Gray.👍🏻

  • Ford makes the Mustang, Dude!

  • Interesting old car models now become trucks or SUV's

  • I love it so far. My only gripe is it doesn't seem like Adaptive Cruise is available. That is THE one feature I do want. TH

  • This looks like a good move by Ford. Not only will they pull away potential truck buyers from the competition, but also car buyers who aren’t interested in big expensive trucks. I wouldn’t call this a sub-compact, though. I’d say it’s a compact. The Ranger is a medium pickup truck. 🛻👍

  • Glad it's not just a hybrid option, especially with a CVT and only fwd, that would be a complete no for me but tha 2.0 with an 8 speed and AWD is much better and I'm sure it will still be pretty good mpg if you stay off the throttle lol but hate that rotary shifter, otherwise not to bad

  • 2.0 eco Awd upgrade turbo and then drag strip Jk it's a nice truck

  • Can't wait to check one of these out. Have an F150 but don't need a full size all the time and don't want a car or suv. Nor a ranger. Could be just what I need.

  • The hybrid option is compelling option from a cost perspective. With front wheel drive and good tires it should go most anywhere while getting great mpg. Probably a big niche for a truck like this.

  • The Maverick names is Cool, I remember the Maverick Car and Love that Blue Color

  • Love it! I would definitely get the awd option. That 2 tone interior looks good!

  • Ordered mine a few days ago, thank you for the review.

  • 💥💥💥💥 People will be selling their Tesla cars to buy one of these. This is GOLDEN !!!

  • I'm an old guy with an older model Ranger ('00 era) & been thinking of replacing it -- this Maverick would fit the bill for me quite nicely, could do almost everything I do with the Ranger no problem & close enough to make-do re: the few times I use the whole length of the bed

  • The 2.0l ecoboost engine sounds fun, a small compact truck with 250hp and 40mpg??? This just seems like an overall awesome vehicle to own, car guys and truck guys should both love this thing! But we shall see when we can actually get our hands on one... i have high hopes however...

  • Im looking to replace my 2011 Ford Flex within the year. I'm surprised that the dimensions of the Maverick are so close to the Flex, GVW being the major exception. $36,000 loaded seems like an incredible deal for a loaded AWD vehicle.

  • Styling is pretty good… I’m more impressed to see an interior that doesn’t look like dog 💩 given the amazing price tag. $25,000 loaded up with decent features is a home run!

  • Wow! My grandma is going to love this. She will be able to load hay for her goats and feeds for her ducks.

  • Fantastic small attractive truck with a decent amount of features. Solid gas mileage at a fantastic price. The perfect family hauler with a 4.5' bed with an optional bed extender. Ford is keeping them coming with the award winning Mustang Mach E. The New Broncos. The New Mach I and the top selling F150. Unlike the F-150. The Maverick will fit in my driveway

  • Does the Maverick have plastic or carpet floors?

  • Hybrid. Perfect for daily. Awesomeness

  • Interesting pick up truck Joe, if it going to sell starting at 20K and being hybrid too, I would say good bye to the Ranger but I will zonk that an weird looking antenna too, overall a nice looking pick up. Before I forget thanks for the T shirt Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Honestly I wish it was smaller. I miss the old rangers. The little baby trucks. My dad had one for years and all the time he would get people leaving notes on his windshield or knocking on the door asking if he was interested in selling it. It was a good little truck.

  • Trash. Looks like the Ridgelines gay little brother. Lol

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.

  • I would just get a Toyota Prius till i could afford a all electric truck. Had to replace too many transmissions on vehicles.

  • Almost reserved the Maverick until I realized an AWD hybrid option is not available. Bummer

  • As a compact suv driver I see this as a good replacement. Get to keep the good gas mileage with more functionality. Don’t need to harass my truck owner friends to haul bigger items. I’d have to see the bed size in person to get a better idea though.

  • Has everybody forgotten the compact trucks they used to have? Ford Courier? Chevy Luv? Anyway I have been Pricing out what my next vehicle was going to be for 2 years. Had pretty much settled on a Subaru Forrester. Trucks were way too expensive even on single cab and i would want crew cab. They were also way too big. Right now I haul Mulch, soil, manure bags, lumber and trees in a Suzuki Aerio! The Maverick I could do so much with! Plus it's a hybrid! Ground clearance is almost as much as the forester on the fwd so yes you could do dirt roads.

    • Thanks for sharing your great input and perspective on this one.

  • @Raiti's Rides great video as always. I was in that group who was looking for a pick up truck for the longest time but just did not have the right fit (need and price) but Maverick is awesome. Put my order in last week.

  • 1. Built ford tough? Truck is built in Mexico.. not buying it. 2. Front end looks like a trailblazer and dodge avenger had a kid. 3. Hyundai Santa Cruz is built in America. It looks better in and out. And it tows 5000lbs. .. Santa Cruz 💯

    • The Santa Cruz looks like a Tuscon with part of the roof cut off, because that's all it is. And it's hideous. At least the Maverick looks like a pickup truck.

  • I these days of 50g pickups this may sell well. Living close to Mexico I see all these small trucks and vans that aren’t sold here and always think they would sell great here! Have a car payment not a mortgage like payment!!! I could be tempted if a 4x4 version is affordable. Just wish it was available as a 2 door with a longer bed.

  • Oh no…the Maverick used to be a car back in the 70’s….

  • Good Idea kind of a mini truck

  • I loved my Ranger when they were small basic

  • Why does it have to be ugly though?

  • I'm so pumped with this one. This would fit my lifestyle

  • Too expensive, plus its a Ford so no bueno.

  • Thanks Joe. I don't really care about a car's name. 37 mpg average, and $21,490 price tag - it's such a great bargain that I put my order in already. Silver base model no options. Going right now to my local dealer to drive the Escape Hybrid to check out the engine.

  • I'd buy one. I like it Joe!

  • This truck is just so plain. They could have done something more to make it look more aggressive liking the front end is just ugly. It looks like a truck that a utility worker would drive for work. Btw for some reason after watching this video I have a craving for a Twinkie.🤔

  • think i might have to cop

  • I want to learn more about the drive modes and if there’s a snow mode for the hybrid model?

  • I like the truck very much, it’s size is out of the USA a full truck, but I don’t know why Ford loves that rotate shift gear, to me looks like a toy. I prefer the regular stick

  • Shoulda been named Ranchero.

  • I kind of doubt the one at 20k looks anywhere near as good as the one in the video.

  • This is a very interesting package. The ecoboost version is compelling with 4k towing.

  • Garbage. This is what people have to get excited about? Ugly, gutless, tiny worthless bed, completely worthless in three years. Car makes just crank out pure shit anymore.

  • Very excited about this. 3x CR-V owner. I have been wanting a truck for a long time. The F150 and Ram trucks are just too expensive and too big for my needs. Really liked the new (2017-2020) Ridgeline but it looked too much like a pilot. I was hoping to get a the 2021 Ridgeline next year but even that may just be out of my price range. The Maverick checks all the boxes as you say and won’t break the bank. Can’t wait to see it in person, I think this will be it.

  • I've driven an F150 for years and I'm even considering this now that I'm working in Downtown LA. It's impractical to drive a full sized truck when I only hawl things on weekends or trips. So personally I think the Maverick is a great option and really smart of Ford to bring back this class of truck

  • Zonk!

  • I've had a truck 2000 ranger quad cab was perfect miss it , I'd get this non electric love the orange and cloth guts don't care for sunroof . I'm considering this take items to thrift store pickup thing at home Depot .

  • Hmmm..seems like maybe a lot of comments by shills here. It's not a truck..it's a small SUV with half a roof. Millienials will no doubt love it . If you NEED a truck this isn't. If you just wanna pose while at the Starbucks drive-thru or driving to spin class while patting yourself on the back for 'doing your part' to 'save the planet'...be my guest.

  • Ford said.. Hyundai made a what??? Lol

  • Why not call it Ranchero..? 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️

  • If the main reason why you like the Maverick is the under $20k price tag I believe you should reserve one of these soon. My feeling is that after the first year they will either raise prices for the XL or include additional options and raise that price. I've purchased a few first model year vehicles and I've seen that happen in just about every case. I bought a first year Kia Soul (Sport) in 2009 (2010 model year) and paid $18,500 out the door - in 2018, 9 years later, I bought a top of the line Soul! (loaded with the turbo) and it stickered at nearly $28,500 - prices do go up but automakers also know they can raise prices when they have a popular product and not a lot of competition.

  • Same problem as always....to many doors

  • I've been a "Ford guy" for the past 2 1/2 decades and currently own a 2018 F-150 XLT - although I'm in the market for something smaller that I can park in my garage I'm not sure that I won't take delivery of the Santa Cruz I have a reservation for here in July/August (at least that's when they are supposed to be showing up). I may just snag one of these in base XL trim for the kids to drive and keep the Santa Cruz for my wife and myself. There's things I like about the Maverick more than the Santa Cruz and vice versa. It doesn't appear that you can get ventilated seats in the Maverick and the towing capacity is higher on the Santa Cruz but the payload is higher on the Maverick. Lots to consider - From what I can tell it looks as though both top out around just under $40k and while there's no pricing on the Hyundai side although you can build and reserve the Ford.

  • I’d really like to know how it went from 18,000 to 21,000 in a matter of days fuck you Ford go to hell

  • That is 1/3rd less than RAV4 Hybrid if you don't need AWD.

  • Really like this, great video!

  • Can not believe you missed zOnKIng the remote control antenna Joe. 😆 But it is a nice looking truck!

  • A great design. Most will average $30k out the door. Way more useful than the Focus which it replaces.

  • GR 86 VS Maverick . Which one should I purchase first ?

  • That nunu! Yeah, I’m feelin that. That’s some kush kush!

  • Someone will buy one of these and lift it, lol.

  • Joe, btw.... anything more than a 16' travel trailer is going to push this truck around in a manor not desirable. Lori.... nice work behind the camera, as usual!!

  • Nice little truck, it's going to be a home run for Ford! However..... I'm old enough to remember the Ford Maverick and it really was a ...... well let's just say it's not a "Collector"... that being said, I think Ford should have come up with a new name for this new truck!! Nice job on the video as always Joe!!

  • Cool !

  • You should get a truck to add to your car collection

  • Wow, Ford is doing great job with designs for all trucks and cars. Thank you for the review 👍

    • Unfortunately Ford's cars have all gone buy buy but they are still the leader in truckd.

  • Ford + CVT + 180HP = Guaranteed Disappointment

  • I'll check back in when you're behind the wheel and for the on throttle.

  • Lame

  • I have a tuff time laying down more cash than I paid for my first home! I'll never own another "NEW" vehicle because of equipment I don't want or care about. My idea of a truck is just primitive. LOL 😆 I can accept the modern safety equipment but I picture a truck ready for work. AM/FM radio, heat and AC. That's it. I don't need anything else. Oughta be able to build one of those and stick a price sticker on it for around $7,000.00 or there abouts. It's a truck....a fella and his Dog kinda thing.

  • cvt...i should have known..ill pass

    • @Thomas Miller ok thomas..whatever

    • @Jeffrey Bishop ....and you don't have to get one with a CVT. And the world keeps spinning...

    • @Thomas Miller oh right.. i ve heard theres going to be a ecoboost version of this truck mated to a regular auto tranny..ok and

    • Only the hybrid version is a CVT.

  • In light of the not-so-great EPA numbers just being released for the Santa Cruz, Hyundai will regret not offering the hybrid from the new Tuscon in their new small truck. People wanting a small truck option but want good gas mileage will go with the Maverick...

  • I definitely want one!

  • hmm, no "it's not a truck" comments here. interesting. this is a great offering by ford and between the maverick and santa cruz, you have two great options that start in the low-20s. i think a lot of businesses/fleets will also be interested in the maverick.

  • They need new people at Ford for those people making the name for new vehicle. They name Mustang Mach E and now this Maverick. I've could of came up with a better name than that.

  • I've never owned a truck and never particularly wanted to. Until I saw this. 40mpg city, great styling with that two-tone interior and orange accents, compact size, big-enough bed for all my uses, and all for 20-25k? I never thought I'd own a truck but this might be my next vehicle.

  • I was thinking of getting a Mustang for my next vehicle but this Maverick looks really interesting. I'm gonna wait and try this truck first

  • Why make a new truck when there Is no micro chips do even make it Operational???

  • When I first saw this thing I was not impressed at all and then I saw the price... jaw on floor. Finally a truck I can afford.

  • Looks like a carbon copy of a Honda Ridgeline.

  • The new Maverick is nice but I wish Ford would have built an extended cab version of this truck like my 1989 Toyota extended cab pickup truck. Oh, this truck is nothing like an El Camino, my Toyota pickup truck is more El Camino than this 4 door truck.

  • Downside on this MAY be the made in MX aspect. We'll see.

  • nice mini truck but this powertrain hybrid with CVT is reliable ?

  • This is a cool, little truck. I like what it has to offer as far as practicality, utility, good gas mileage, decent power and decent looks. Waiting for your test drive, Joe, to find out if it’s fun to drive. I think it’s a great alternative to the small SUVs. I can put 4 golf bags in the back! That’s a win! 😁🏌🏼‍♂️🤙🏽

  • Just having more Truck options will hopefully drive some of these OVERPRICED trucks down some. 40-70K for a mid and full sized truck is absolutely absurd!!!

  • Let's try to not kill off the true, compact truck segment again. Sound good?

  • It needs a limited trim and a tremor package, Im really liking this look the more I se it the more I like it its too bad they didnt put this much effort into the ranger but its coming

  • I think this truck looks great and the price is amazing! I will check one out when they are available!

  • Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive 2.0 Turbo models able to tow 4000 pounds? Or just the all-wheel-drive variant

  • Definitely gonna buy one..especially the xlt

  • If the updated Ranger has the Raptor for US market, that's a game changer

  • Very disappointed in the infotainment choice! SYNC 3 is so 2016 and the big hole next to the screen looks like they were planning for a wide display and changed their minds.

  • Not the kind of truck many of us car guys/gals would be interested in but I think it’s amazing for people to have a budget truck option.

  • I commute 90 miles through remote Western Kansas and this seems perfect for combining mpg with some amount of utility in a way not previously found in the truck segment. I am leaning toward replacing my commuter crossover with one. However, I am not expecting this to replace my full size truck and commuter in one vehicle.

  • I could save so much gas with this thing I have a 5.7 ram and I love the roar of that v8 but these gas prices gonna kill me😂

  • I could these in the fleet for city workers
